New Website Launched to help Latino Parents Discuss Underage Drinking with Children
A new website was launched earlier this year that is the first of its kind in a digital format. Parents Empowered launched a Spanish version of its website that is culture specific for Latinos to empower Latino parents to learn about the dangers of underage drinking. Parents Empowered is funded by the Utah State Legislature and works with various governmental organizations in Utah and non-governmental organizations to spread the awareness of underage drinking. Steve Wright, with Parents Empowered, stated:
The first focus that they’ll have is to understand the true natures and harms related to underage drinking. The new website has tools and resource to have conversations with your kids for the first time. One of the charges behind this new website is to answer that call to action that Latino parents have asked us to help share this message the need to engage their children as early as often to establish this rule.
Parents Empowered claims that 67 percent of children who experiment with alcohol before they are 15 years old are likely to try drugs and 40 percent of children who experiment with alcohol before they are 13 years old are more likely to become alcohol dependent.
This is a good website for Latino parents to utilize and hopefully a similar program can be adopted here in California.
